Pagadian City joins National Crime Prevention Week observance





PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Sept. 8 (PNA) -– Mayor Romeo Pulmones has urged the public to help the law enforcers in the fight against all forms of criminality in this city.

Pulmones made the call as this city joined the observance of the 21st National Crime Prevention Week that kicked off Monday, citing crime prevention is the task of everyone and not just of the law enforcers.

“Let us help our police force in resolving and fighting against all forms of criminalities in our city,” Pulmones added.

He commended the local police for the good performance and gaining the support to the community in the maintenance of peace and order to include in the anti-drug campaign.

Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, provincial police director, reported that the crime volume for the first semester of this year dropped by 32 percent.

Ecaldre said that shooting incidents dropped by 25 percent and crime against property declined by 48 percent.

8 inmates bolt Lanao del Norte jail




PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Sept. 3 (PNA) -- The police have launched pursuit operations to recapture the eight detainees who bolted from jail early Thursday in nearby Lanao del Norte province.

Senior Superintendent Madid Paitao, Lanao del Norte police director, identified the escapees as the following: Karis Balwa; Ano Angni; Bukong Santos; Waled Mandagla; Bawi Mapandi; Samsoding Mamao; Musakira Tomanto; and a certain Muran.

Paitao said the detainees escaped from the provincial jail in Barangay Pigcarangan, Tubod, Lanao del Norte around 3:15 a.m. Thursday.

Paitao said investigation showed the escapees managed to escape after they sawed the iron grills of their detention cell with a hacksaw.

He said they have coordinated with the other law enforcement agencies, including the military forces, to assist them in the manhunt operation.

He called on the public to assist them by way of providing timely information as to the whereabouts of the detainees. (PNA)

Zambo Sur cops file charges against 4 captured pirates





PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Aug. 25 (PNA) – Police have filed criminal charges against four suspected pirates they recently captured following a brief firefight off the shores of Vincenzo Sagun town, this province.

Sr. Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, provincial police director, told the Philippines News Agency that among the charges they filed against the arrested suspects included illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and direct assault to an agent of the law.

Ecaldre identified the suspects as Joveto Galorio; Bobby Jerusalem; Joel Langgam; and, Fredo Oclaret, all residents of Igat Island in nearby Margosatubig town.

Ecaldre said the suspects were captured following a five-minute firefight with policemen around 3 p.m. Friday near the shore of Barangay Biu-Os, Vincenzo Sagun town.

He said Junjie Isbot, a companion of the suspects, was killed during the firefight that ensued when the patrolling policemen chanced upon them.

He said the group of the suspects was believed to be behind the piracy incidents within the Dumanguilas Bay area.

He said the patrolling policemen confiscated from the suspects’ possessions a Garand rifle with 22 rounds of ammunition.

He said the suspects were detained at the lock-up cell of the Vincenzo Sagun Municipal Police Station. (PNA)
