JRMSU celebrates Saludo Festival 2015 in Dapitan City




DAPITAN CITY --The Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) which is the only university in the province of Zamboanga del Norte had been consistent in their bid to be at par with, if not surpass the other universities in the Philippines, City Tourism Officer Apple Marrie Agolong said.

Agolong said JRMSU is under the Presidency of Dr. Edgar Balbuena with his three Vice Presidents, Dr. Aida Lanioso, Dr. Reynaldo Venezuela and Dr. Evelyn CampiseƱo together with Dr. Marissa Recapente as the Chief Administrative Officer and Prof. Jay Telen as Dean of Student Affairs and Services.

She said it had a very successful and impressive opening salvo of their Saludo Festival this afternoon at the grounds of the university's main campus here in Dapitan City which is also dubbed as the Shrine City of the Philippines!

Mayor Rosalina G. Jalosjos is very pleased with outcome of the opening program and encouraged the university administration as well as all the other sectors in the city to come up with events that would harnesh the creativity of each and every Dapitanon, Agolong added. 

Jalosjos added that Dapitan City with tourism as the main product is focusing on activities which directly or indirectly promotes the arrival of both domestic and international tourists, she disclosed.

The City Mayor is inviting everyone to come, visit and enjoy Dapitan hospitality, history, culture, food, entertainment and eco-tourism adventure!

She said the Mayor is very confident that once you have a vacation in Dapitan, you will be taken back to the era of Dr. Jose Rizal while at the same time enjoying the amenities of tourism and the modernity of its entertainment provided by the private stakeholders which are doing business in the city such as the Gloria de Dapitan which housed The Fantasy Land, which is also the only theme park in Visayas and Mindanao with more than 45 rides, the biggest and longest roller coaster in the country and the horroriest horror house this writer ever tried in her vast travel experiences.


JRMSU was the venue of the 2011 Palarong Pambansa and a number of inter university and inter-city athletic competitions. “It has five campuses in the province and the home university of the AFS Exchange Students from all over the world. She said. (JC-PFM)

WestMinCom female association joins Pink October Month celebration

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamaboanga del Sur – The members of the Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) Las Mujeres Association (WLMA) based in Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City, military official said.  

Philippine Navy Captain Maria Rowena A. Muyuela said the association composed of the female officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees of the WesMinCom Association.

Muyuela said the group joined the women of Zamboanga City in the annual walk, dubbed as the “Pink October Month,” launched by the city government of Zamboanga to advocate for breast cancer awareness.

150 new recruits sent for Basic Military Training

Camp Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao --- A total of 150 candidate soldiers coming from the different municipalities in the Provinces of Mindanao were officially sent for a 20-week training at the Army’s 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division (6ID) Training School in Barangay Semba, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, military official said.

6ID Public Affairs Office Chief Capt. Jo-Ann D. Petinglay said the new set of recruits have undergone the complete screening and pre-entry process earlier this year.

Petinglay said the training will be in two (2) phases: the Basic Military Training which will run for 13 weeks, and the Jungle Warfare Mountain Operations Course that will be expected to finish in seven (7) weeks.

Petinglay said the Parents, family members, and loved ones of the recruits flocked to the grounds of the 6ID in order to wish their candidate soldiers well and to witness the oath-taking ceremony.

Petinglay also said the 6ID Commander Major General Edmundo R. Pangilinan in his message said that he wants the training to be purposive and relevant because what will be taught during the duration are the same lessons that will keep the would-be soldiers survive their military careers.

The 6ID Commander also reminded the trainers to make sure to inculcate discipline and respect for authority, to ensure adherence to uncompromising standards and for the recruits to develop a mindset that everything done is essentially important.

Petinglay added that during the training, candidate soldiers are expected to undergo dramatic and abrupt change of their personal lifestyles to acculturation into the military routine.


The trainees are expected to graduate after more than five (5) months of training and will be incorporated to the regular members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), specifically with the 6ID with the rank of Private, Petinglay disclosed.
