Grenade explosion 2 hurt, motive is personal-Police

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two were wounded and rushed to the nearby hospital after a grenade throwing incident explosion happen in Zamboanga City Wednesday at 5:30 in the afternoon of October 11, 2012.

Police initial investigation disclosed, unidentified suspects riding in tandem thrown the grenade at the back of Black Navarra pick-up vehicle with plate number KFJ-885 while on route along Canelar Street going to Governor Camins.

The couple who owned one of the big hotels in the city, boarded inside the said vehicle had survived and unhurt while the back portion of the vehicle was damaged.

The 2 wounded victims who boarded from another public utility vehicle near the incident were hit by the sharp nails and was brought immediately separately to the nearby private hospital.

The police operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD) recovered another one un-exploded MK2 type grenade near the crime scene, while the police operatives still conducting a thorough investigation to  identify the two suspects riding in tandem.

The incident was classified as personal grudge between the businessman and the suspects and not a terroristic attack that worries some residents, said Col. Buenaventura Pascual, Commander of Taskforce Zamboanga.    

As of press time, the Police authorities withheld the name of the businessman for security reason and in order not to hamper the ongoing investigation of the case. (With reports by Ely Dumaboc)
