Lugos Mayor Asmadun Seeking His 2nd Term

JOLO, SULU – Incumbent Lugus Municipal Mayor Al-Zhudurie L. Asmadun has officially filed his certificate of candidacy in his bid for re-election in the 2013 elections for the highest local post in Lugus, Sulu.

In seeking a fresh mandate from his constituents, Asmadun vowed to continue to develop the island town and uplift the living condition of the people.

Accompanied by family members, relatives and friends, re-electionist Asmadun, who is the youngest local chief executive, submitted to the COMELEC Tuesday October 3, 2012 his COC along with his party mates.

Sulu Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Vidzfar A. Julie, through the Lugus Municipal Election officer, appreciated and accepted the COCs during the filing.

Back-up by all barangay leaders, Asmadun brought a new hope for the Lugus constituents with him vying for the second term as mayor under the President Nonoy S. Aquino administration Liberal Party (LP).

Asmadun is running under the party ticket of Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan and most incumbent mayors of the province.

Other Municipal Council aspirants are; Riking Asaali, Omar Jajalani, Mohammad Isa Saning, Persia Mallang, Dhoh Wahab, Aljin Aradais, Ting Amag, and Lajid Hamid supported him under the same party.

Asmadun was elected in 2010 as Mayor amid a tense situation wherein he won majority votes over his rivals.

All the Village Chairmen and their supporters were led by Midjal Janano of Barangay Lugus Proper, Maimona Butlangan of Barangay Bas Lugus, Al Jihad Hassan of Barangay Tingkagan, Almudzhar Julkanain of Barangay Mangkallay, Lino Asdali of Barangay Bas Nunuk, Asmadul Kahil of Barangay Kutah Parang, Nasser Kallas of Barangay Huwit-Huwit, Arnel Murad of Barangay Mantan, Suawaib Wahab of Brgy. Alu Duyong and Ibnowalid Bassal of Alu Bus-Bus.

Also all the leaders and followers of the 4 barangays which were declared as failure of elections due to election related tensions, were also present to support the candidacy of Asmadun to included Alawaddin Adih of Brgy. Pait, Bersies Arabani of Brgy. Gapas Tubig Tuwak, Ambay Putalan of Brgy. Laha and Abduraja Juhuri of Barangay Sibul.

Asmadun, supported by his father former mayor Abdusali Asmadun and his uncle former Mayor Mansul Aradais expressed optimism that he will have a greater chance of winning and get re-elected as mayor considering he has the backing of all his relatives especially the whole family members are united following the recent successful reconciliation between two big political groupings which ensure a more non-violent, honest, orderly and credible elections next year.

Earlier, Mayor Asmadun, assisted by local leaders and spearheaded by the older Asmadun, managed to initiate settlement of their almost 20 years of long conflict between his father’s rival in Lugus, that once and for all settled their long standing-political rivalry.

Both former mayors Asmadun and Aradais including their relatives and supporters decided to “bury the hatchet” with the pledge to keep the elections democratic, fair free and credible.

Both reconciled groups promised to implement programs and projects, which were long delayed due to family conflicts.

“Am very certain that with our unity as one big clan, we shall be able to muster the majority votes in the 2013 coming elections and harmonize our efforts to bring progress to our place,” the incumbent mayor said.

Lugus, a fifth class municipality has a population of over 18,839 as of 2000 census with 17 barangays in the province’s second district and with almost 10,000 registered voters. (By BFC)
