Suspected Jemaah Islamiyah killed after resist arrest in Marawi

KUTA SANG-AN, LABANGAN, Zamboanga del Sur – A suspected member of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) after he resist arrest conducted by the joint elements from the 103rd Infantry Brigade of the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, Philippine Army and the PNP SAF in Barrio Salam, Mindanao State University Compound Marawi City Thursday night on November 22, 2012.

The Army’s Premier Infantry (TABAK) Division Commander Maj. General Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III identified the JI member as alias Ustadz Sanusi or Ishak who is charged with arson and murder was arrested thru warrant of arrest.

The joint Army-PNP law enforcement operation was set to arrest seven suspected JI personalities including alias Ustadz Sanusi or Ishak that day. During the law enforcement operations which progressed into a hot pursuit, the suspect sustained gunshot wound during the commotion that ensued. He was rushed to the Amai Pakpak Hospital of the same city bu t died later. 

A PNP SAF member was wounded when he fell from a building during the short pursuit. PNP elements found a hand grenade and M16 rifle from the suspect. 

The warrant of arrest was issued by the 11th Judicial Region RTC Judge Oscar P. Noel Jr. based in Mansion, Saranggani province. 

Maj. General Cruz III exalted the involved troops of the 103rd Infantry Brigade for the neutralization of the JI member. He further directed the ground troops to continue the pursuit operations jointly with the PNP. “In the spirit of bayanihan, we can assure our people that the joint Army-PNP pursuit operations against bad elements and those who disturb peace in our area shall go without let up”.
