Assorted FAs recovers by the Army troopers of 53IB

Assorted firearms recovered by the 53rd IB a day before the election

KUTA SANG-AN, LABANGAN, ZAMBOSUR – Elements of Bravo Company, 53rd Infantry Battalion while conducting security operations at Brgy Buburay, Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur as part of the preparation for the election, discovered a cache of fire arms with assorted ammunitions at Buburay Elementary School around 9:00 o’clock yesterday morning May 12, 2013.

1Lt Leonil Alexis C Tan, Company Commander said that while his troop was conducting operations and inspection in one of the classrooms as part of the standard operating procedure they discovered assorted firearms with various types of ammunitions hidden thereat, such as; one (1) modified M653, one (1) M14 rifle, one (1) M1 Garand, one (1) M79 Grenade Launcher, two (2) modified M1 Carbine, two (2) Shotguns and one (1) cal. 45 pistol.

The FAs are believed to be prepositioned in the classroom by still unidentified persons out to create trouble during the election before the troops of the 53rd Infantry Battalion arrived in the area.

Lt. Col Victor D Tangawohn, Commanding Officer of 53IB, commended the vigilance of his troops, saying; “The possible occurrence of big untoward incident cannot be discounted if these firearms were not discovered”.  

At present, police are conducting investigation to identify the owner of the said cache of fire arms.
