5 Pinoy fishermen were killed in Sulu Sea pirate attack

PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBOSUR (PAGADIAN Frontline/Sunday December 8, 2013) – At least 3 dead bodies out of 5 fishermen were retrieved by Southern Philippines Coast Guard at the boundary of Sulu and Tawi-tawi Sea near the Municipal Sea Water of Siasi after gunmen aboard a speedboat strafing their light-boat vessel on Friday early morning.

Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Lieutenant Jomark Angue said, the 3 dead bodies arrived in Zamboanga City on Saturday at 12:00 noon. They were identified as Van Gala, 51 from Brgy. Sangali, Zamboanga City, Joel Salig, 38 of Brgy. Gango, R.T. Lim in Zamboanga Sibugay and Walter Cutad, 31 of Dipolog City. Their two other companions identified as Jhon Descalzo, and certain Bucoy were missing.

The Gunmen suspected to be pirates operating the southern trouble islands of Sulu sprayed with bullets one on the fishing fleet owned by GMA fishing company and then sped off, said coast guard spokesman.

Military sources said the attacker’s might belong to Al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf, a group from southern Philippines who is responsible of terror attacks including bombings, kidnappings, banditry and this kind motive might be part of their extortion activities in the area.
