Selected volunteers from disaster-prone areas graduated First Aid Course

PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBOSUR (Frontline News, Dec 26, 2013) – At least 40 selected community volunteers from 4 coastal barangays in Pagadian City had graduated in a 3-day Comprehensive First Aid Training recently.

The Training was conducted by the Philippine National Red Cross Training team, Pagadian City Chapter facilitated by Ummah Fi Salam (UFS), a Muslim Civil Society Organization (CSO) based in Pagadian City.

Around 40 people from the four coastal communities and 5 from UFS Disaster Risk Response (DRR) Team are selected to participate in the training. 


The identified areas are: Purok Darusalam in Barangay. Sta. Lucia, Purok Muslim Village in Barangay Kawit, Purok Campo Islam (a.k.a. Leon Kilat) in Barangay San Pedro and Purok Sunshine in Barangay Santiago. These areas are identified by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council as prone disaster for Tsunami.

“This is to train volunteer community members on basic knowledge and skills in responding to emergencies brought about by natural and human-made calamities and this training also aims to prepare the trained community members to quickly administer first aide to individuals in their respective area of concern in times of possible disaster occurrence,” UFS Executive Director Sultan Maguid Marohum said.

The participants will be able to enhance community spirit/concern and strengthened relationship through the learning’s acquired, Share to other community members precautions to avoid severe damages/injuries in times of disaster and also develop quick and organized team response to any disaster eventualities, Marohum added.
