EOD Robot assign for EOD Mobile Team in Region 9

PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBOSUR (Jan. 20, 2014 Pagadian FRONTLINE NEWS) – Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Mobile Team of the Philippine National Police (PNP) from the Police Regional Office-9 had demonstrated to the City Officials on Saturday how the EOD Robot Caliber MK3 to be operated during their response to disrupt  the reported Improvised Explosive Device (IED) incident. 

The demonstration of EOD Robot Caliber MK3 last Saturday afternoon at the City Hall Complex was conducted by EOD Mobile Team leader Senior Police Officer-1 Jonathan Nodato.


Also attended the demonstrations are the members of Pagadian City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) headed by Haron Damada, Committee members of the Public Safety and Peace and Order in the Sangguniang Panglunsod (SP) led by the Chairman City Councilor Ernesto Mondarte and to the members of media. 

EOD Robots Caliber MK3 with code name “Wayne” in Region-9, the named after his operator has a total weight of 90 kilos, is operated by remote control up to 5 kilometers radius with a duration of 3 hours battery powered operation. It can drag also an object weighing up to 150 kilos SPO1 Nodato said.        

The EOD Team demonstrates how Wayne climbs the stairs and carrying caliber 22 shotgun to neutralize the enemy.

During the bomb disposal operation, Wayne will be operated together with the K9 sniffing dog as a team, SPO1 Nodato said.

SPO1 Nodato disclosed that the machine is a great help to possible zero casualty personnel from the EDOD Team together with the K9 snipping dog during the bomb disposal operations.

Wayne is worth three million pesos that can be operated in all weather condition with built-in camera and x-ray machine to determine the object, with sound system for instruction and laser water disruptor for IED, SPO1 Nodato explained.


The EOD Robots Caliber MK3 arrived in Zamboanga City one week before the Zamboanga Siege. His fighting capability has been tested during the said incident, SPO1 Nodato assured the audience during the demonstration.

According to SPO1 Nodato, the PNP was able to acquire three EOD Robots Caliber MK3 from the U.S. Government through  donation intended to the EOD Team and one of these EOD Robots was assigned in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Wayne is only intended for Region-9 operations except if there is an order from the higher headquarters that will be used in other regions in Mindanao, the EOD Team Leader said.
