Rural Transit Mindanao continues to operate

By Jong Cadion

PAGADIAN CITY, Feb. 19, 2014-MINDANAO, Philippines (SOLAR NEWS) -- Rural Transit Mindanao in Pagadian City has yet to cease operation because the company staff still has to be informed by management about the suspension order from the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

According to Swilbeny Baybayan, an LTFRB official, only one franchise of Rural Bus Mindanao was named in the suspension order.

Out of the 10 buses in the franchise, only two license plates have been confiscated.

One of the passengers at the Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) expressed worry over the 30-day suspension order imposed upon Rural Transit by the LTFRB because this will affect daily shipments from Cagayan de Oro City.

Rural Transit is the only passenger bus line that serves the Western and Northern Mindanao areas.

The LTFRB recently issued 30-day preventive suspension order against Rural Transit Mindanao and Antonina Lines in Camarines Sur after their buses figured in two separate accidents recently that left five people dead and 66 others injured.

On Saturday last week, a Rural Transit Mindanao bus crashed at Barangay Monchin in Siay town, Zamboanga Sibugay, injuring 20 people.

The bus was on its way from Marawi City to Zamboanga Sibugay bringing a contingent of athletes who took part in the Palarong Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletic Association.

On Sunday, February 16, an Antonina Lines bus collided with an Elavil bus in Libmanan, Camarines Sur, resulting in the death of five people and injury to 46 others.
