Policemen secure schools in Zamboanga del Sur




PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, June 2 (PNA) – The police have strengthened security measures as thousands of students reported for the first day of classes for school year 2014-2015.

Provincial police director Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre said he ordered the deployment of policemen to the different schools in the entire province.

Ecaldre said that Police Assistance Desks were also established for the immediate response to any call for assistance.


Ecaldre said that personnel from the Provincial Public Safety Company were deployed to conduct random checkpoints against loose firearms and drug trafficking along the national highways.

“As of 12 noon today, we are very happy to report that there was no untoward incident reported from different municipalities in this province that hampered the first day of classes,” Supt. Ecaldre said.


In this city, local police commander Supt. Glenn Dulawan said policemen augmented by barangay tanods were deployed in the rural areas to ensure the safety of the teachers and students.

This city, which comprises of 54 barangays, has a total of 60 public elementary schools and 19 secondary schools.

The local schools division expects that the number of enrollees in the elementary will reach over 27,000 students and more than 12,000 in the secondary level. (PNA)
