President Aquino declares June 6 as special non-working day in Zamboanga del Norte



PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, June 5 (PNA) -- President Benigno S. Aquino III has declared June 6, 2014 as a special non-working day in the nearby province of Zamboanga del Norte.

The declaration was made through the issuance of Proclamation No. 778, series of 2014, dated May 28, 2014 to give residents opportunity to celebrate the province’ 62nd Founding Anniversary.

Zamboanga del Norte Governor Roberto Uy said the the week-long anniversary celebration will culminate Friday, June 6.


Several activities were lined up for participating government agencies and private sector organizations.

Uy said the 62nd founding anniversary celebration dubbed as the “Saulog” Festival 2014 formally opened last Friday, May 30, with Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II as the guest speaker.


Roxas noted the changes in the province of Zamboanga del Norte under the leadership Uy who earned the moniker “Berto Semento” because of his all-out effort to pave all roads in the province.

 
Roxas, in his message, mentioned about the acquisition of new firearms for the police, the construction of thousands of new classrooms to accommodate the increasing number of students every year, the 4.3 million poor families who have availed the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and the expanded coverage of Philhealth, as among the few gains of the economic reforms implemented by the Aquino administration.
