ZAMBOANGA CITY, June 5 (PNA) -– Some 200 families were displaced while a fireman was injured in a four-hour fire that hit late Wednesday a west coast barangay in this city, officials said.

Supt. Dominador Zabala, Jr., Fire Marshal of the Zamboanga Central Fire Station said the fire broke out around 7 p.m. and razed to the ground some 100 houses in Barangay Campo Islam, 4.5 kilometers west of this city.

Zabala initially placed the estimated worth of property damage between P4 million to P5 million.

Zabala said the fire started in one of the houses and rapidly spread and engulfed the other houses made of light materials and closely-build from one another.

“We have yet to determine the origin of the fire although we were already informed where it started,” Zabala said.

“We have yet also to ascertain the number of houses that were gutted,” he added, saying the fire investigator is still at the fire scene.

He identified the injured fireman as Fire Officer 1 (FO1) Edward Natividad, who suffered arm sprain after he fell from a roof while on firefighting maneuver.
He said they declared the fire out at 11 p.m.

City Social Welfare and Development Officer (CSWDO) Ma. Socorro Roxas said 200 families were displaced by the fire incident. (PNA)
