Barangay officials in Pagadian City undergo disaster planning training

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Aug. 15 (PNA) -– The barangay officials of this city’s 54 barangays have undergone a one-day training on disaster planning.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) Coordinator Haron Damada said Friday among those who have undergone the disaster planning training were the barangay captains, barangay councilmen designated as the disaster risk reduction and management officers and members of the Barangay Emergency Response Team (BERT).

The training, which was held Thursday, was conducted by the CDRRMC assisted by the Local Government Operations Office (LGOO) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

After the training, Damada said the participants were required to submit their respective disaster plan to the CDRRMC “so that budget can be allocated” to purchase the rescue equipment needed in each of the barangays.

He said each of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMCs) was required to identify possible risks or the kind of disaster that might hit their respective areas as well as the corresponding measures and actions to be undertaken.

He said the BDRRMCs were also ordered to include in their disaster plan the designated evacuated area in their respective locality.

He said they were given until the end of this month to submit the disaster plan.

He said that so far two of this city’s 54 barangays have already submitted disaster plan to the CDRRMC. (PNA)
