Violation of Animal Welfare Act files against suspect of killing the dog

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (Aug. 8, 2014-MPF News) --- THE Pagadian City Police had file a case in City Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Republic Act 8485 or otherwise known as the Animal welfare act of 1998 against the suspect of killing the pet dog named (Jeffrey), Police Official said.

Pagadian City Chief of Police Supt. Glenn Dulawan said the case was filed yesterday after the Barangay Official, children and residents of Barangay Pedulonan of this city filed their complaint Wednesday at the City Police Station against the suspect of stabbing to death Jeffrey.

Jeffrey sustained one fatal stabbed wound at his body that causes his untimely death.

Dulawan identified the suspect as Candido Acot alyas Willy was accused as responsible of stabbing the pet dog Jeffrey while the suspect was under the influence of liquor.


“We are waiting issuance of warrant of arrest from the court against the suspect for his immediate arrest,” Dulawan said.

Barangay Chairwoman Gina Gemina who is the owner of the dog also said her pet is a friend of children in their barangay and has a sentimental value after it was entrusted to her by school teacher in their barangay before her death of bone cancer few months ago.

Gemina said Jeffrey is a 3-year old mixed breed of Japanese spitz and Shih Tzu.

The dog is a man’s friend and should be protected and will be given justice against those cruel to them under the R.A. 8485, the Barangay Chairwoman said.
