Zamboanga del Sur, Sept. 15 (PNA) -– Two policemen from the nearby Zamboanga
Sibugay province are in hot water as criminal charges have been filed against
them after they allegedly held a college student against her will.
Charged Monday before
the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Republic
Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002,
qualified human trafficking, and serious illegal detention were Police Officer
2 (PO2) Bederi Gani and PO1 Julkaiser Sali.
Insp. Raul
Clavecilla, chief of police in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay said that a case of rape
has also been filed against Gani.
Clavecilla said Gani
is assigned in the Municipality of Siay while Sali in Malangas town, both in
Zamboanga Sibugay but have gone absent without official leave (AWOL).
Clavecilla said the
victim has executed an affidavit that she was invited last week to have a snack
by the suspects at a fast food chain which she accepted.
He said the victim
further stated that she fell tipsy after consuming her soft drinks.
The suspects brought
here to their rented house in Baranghay Bangkerohan, Ipil, where she was
allegedly forced to use prohibited drugs and was allegedly forced by Gani to
have sex.
He said the victim
managed to escape when the suspects fell asleep and reported to the police
station in Ipil.
He said the suspects,
who were arrested in a follow up operation, are now detained. (PNA)

AN ex-policeman who joined the Abu Sayyaf Group and became wanted for his involvement in the kidnapping of ex-Australian soldier Warren Rodwell in Zamboanga Sibugay in 2011 is now at the Camp Crame jail following his arrest in Kota, Kinabalu by Malaysian authorities, the head of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group announced yesterday.
ReplyDeleteDismissed Senior Police Officer 2 Jun A. Malban was fetched by agents from the PNP-AKG and the National Bureau of Investigation in Kota Kinabalu where he was being held on immigration charges, said Senior Superintendent Roberto B. Fajardo.
The official said that Malaysian authorities turned over the wanted ex-policeman to the PNP-AKG and NBI team after they were furnished a copy of the warrant for his arrest for kidnapping-for-ransom issued by Judge Josefino Bael of the Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Regional Trial Court Branch 24.
Fajardo said Malban, a member of the Police Security and Protection Group, who was dismissed from the service in 2012 after he went on AWOL (absence without official leave) status, was implicated in the kidnapping of Rodwell in December 2011. Rodwell was released on March 23, 2013 by his Abu Sayyaf abductors.
“Rodwell identified Malban as the Abu Sayyaf negotiator during his captivity. He even said that Malban, who is married to a Canadian national, was using the alias Michael Soo/Zue during his captivity,” Fajardo said. The official said that Malban’s Canadian wife is now under the custody of the NBI.
He said that their investigation showed that Malban is the cousin of Abu Sayyaf leaders Khair Mundos and Borhan Mundos. He said that Malban went on AWOL and into hiding until his arrest by the Malaysian police for violation of the Malaysian immigration law last April 28 in Lahad Datu in Sabah.
“The arrest of Malban was the result of the close coordination by the PNP, the NBI and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission with our Malaysian counterparts and the Interpol,” Fajardo said.
He added that they are still continuing their hunt for the rest of the suspects in the Rodwell kidnapping.
Fajardo said that last year, they recorded 50 kidnapping-for-ransom cases compared to the 52 in 2013 and 26 in 2012. So far this year, the official said they have already investigated a total of 15 KFR cases, four in Luzon, one in Visayas and 10 in Mindanao. With Zaida de los Reyes-Palanca
