PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Oct. 2 (PNA) – The Bureau of Customs (BoC) has ordered the confiscation of an estimated 8,000 sacks of undocumented rice shipment worth millions of pesos that were intercepted recently by combined police and military forces in the nearby town of Margosatubig.

The Warrant and Seizure of Detention (WSD) was issued by BoC-Zamboanga District Collector Enrico Turingan upon his arrival Wednesday in Margosatubig. He was accompanied by Manila-based BoC policemen.

Turingan ordered that the confiscated rice be deposited at the warehouse of the National Food Authority (NFA) in this city.

The combined police and military forces intercepted the rice shipment last week a day the cargo arrived at the port of Margosatubig.

Investigation showed the rice shipment came from Taganak, Tawi-Tawi and was put on hold after it was discovered that shipment was not covered with valid documents.

The shipper was identified as Arnisa Usman Madznhut Tulawi and the supposed receiver as Jay Keneth Yap of Zamboanga City.

Provincial NFA Manager Nieves Toca said the BoC is in the process of ascertaining the legality of the shipment. (PNA)
