Abutazil said the ToT will be held next week from October 21-23 in this city and will be attended by the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators and Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) staffs of 11 towns coming from this province, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay.

Catalbas said they comprise the second batch of Local Government Units (LGUs) to undergo ToT. The first batch comprised also of 11 LGUs and had undergone ToT from August 18-20 in this city.

“The Local Government Units (LGUs), being at the forefront of disasters, play a very crucial role in disaster preparedness and management and thus, the prime movers at the local levels have to be fully capacitated and equipped with the technical know-how in all aspects of DRRM,” Abutazil said.

Catalbas said the training on GIS is important for participants to appreciate the use of hazard maps linked to planning as it is also prerequisite to Local Climate Change Adaptation Plan (LCCAP) set by December 2014. (PNA)
