PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Oct. 4 (PNA) -- The local police have confiscated a total of 258 “unauthorized mufflers” in its campaign against noisy motorcycles during the past two months in this city, a top police official said Saturday.

Local police chief Supt. Glenn Dulawan said the campaign was launched in line with City Ordinance No. 2014-344, “an ordinance requiring the installation of mufflers and silencers on vehicle exhaust system.”

Dulawan said the “unauthorized mufflers” were confiscated from August to September following a three-month Information and Education Campaign on City Ordinance No. 2014-344.

Dulawan said the violators were slapped with corresponding fines as follows: first offense, P1,000; second offense, P2,000 and third offense, P3,000.

Dulawan said the owners who violated the Ordinance were also required to pay impounding fee of P200 daily until such time they will be able to claim their motorcycles.

Dulawan added the impounded motorcycles will only be released at the time its owners re-install the original mufflers.

He commended the personnel of the local traffic section and other policemen who assisted in the implementation of City Ordinance No. 2014-344.(PNA)
