PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Nov. 17 (PNA) -- The police have alerted its forces in the province of nearby Zamboanga Sibugay to ensure the protection of travelers in the area.

Zamboanga Sibugay police director Senior Supt. Robert Roy Bahian issued the order after five gunmen held-up and robbed a passenger bus along the national highway in Barangay Dipala, Kabasalan municipality on Saturday.

Investigation showed the gunmen pulled the heist around 10:45 p.m. Saturday while the bus with body number 9502 owned by the Rural Transit Management, Inc. (RTMI) was traveling to this city coming from Zamboanga City.

The gunmen carted away undetermined cash and valuables they divested from the passengers including the service firearm, a .9-mm pistol, of Police Office 3 (PO3) Jimwell Penales of Vincenzo Sagun municipality. Penales was among the passengers of the bus.

The suspects fled towards the municipality of Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Bahian also ordered to intensify the conduct of mobile patrols along the highway of Zamboanga Sibugay to thwart repetition of the same incident along the national highway of the province.

Zamboanga Sibugay comprises of 16 towns and serves, particularly Ipil town, as the stop-over area for RTMI buses plying the route from Zamboanga City to as far as Ozamis City and Cagayan de Oro City.
