PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Dec. 8 (PNA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its Shared Service Facility (SSF) program has released Php6.5 million financial assistance benefiting five organizations and cooperatives since January this year in this province.

Roger Sarsalejo, head of DTI’s Business development Division, said Monday that three of the five organizations SSF program beneficiaries are fully operational while the other two are still in the acquisition process of the needed equipment.

The three fully operational beneficiaries and the corresponding assistance they received are Danlugan Multi-Purpose cooperative, Php640,000 worth of equipments for the organic fertilizer processing facilities; Pagadian City Non-formal Education Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Php154,000 for the purchase of five high-speed sewing machines; and, Dumalinao Small-Coconut Farmer Organization, Php1.5 million for fiber and peat separator equipment.

The two beneficiaries that are still in the acquisition process are Ramon Magsaysay LGU organization, Php3.5 million for bamboo processing and furniture; and Pagadian City-ZDS Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc., Php552,000 for the establishment of Business Resource Center in this city.

Sarsalejo said under the SSF program, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) will be signed by the DTI and the program beneficiaries for the free use of the needed facilities for a period of two years.

After the two-year period, Sarsalejo said they will assess the performance of the program beneficiaries to determine compliance of the MOA in their livelihood undertaking.

He said the DTI will execute a deed of donation giving for free to the SSF program beneficiaries the equipment and machineries acquired through the program once they pass the evaluation and will recall the equipment if they fail.

The SSF program is a strategic complementary project that intends to balance off existing programs of DTI such as the National Industry Cluster Capacity Enhancement Project (NICCEP) to achieve inclusive growth.

The SSF entails the setting up of common service facilities or production centers for certain processes to give MSMEs access to better technology and more sophisticated equipment to accelerate their bid for competitiveness and help them graduate to a next level where they could tap a better and wider market and be integrated in the global supply chain.
