Kalinga sa Bayan” benefits 300 school children in Poona Piagapo, Lanao del Norte

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (Dec. 24, 2014) – A total of 300 school children ages from 5 to 18-year old coming from various schools in the 26 barangays of the nearby town of Poona Piagapo in the province of Lanao del Norte benefited the 2-day “Kalinga Sa Bayan” program held at the Municipal Gymnasium last December 20-21.

Municipal Mayor Farhana R. Palawan said Wednesday the 2-day Kalinga Sa Bayan event also dubbed as “A Gathering of Heroes” was jointly launched by the Army’s 15th Infantry “Molave Warrior” Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Division and 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Mechanized Infantry Division in partnership with some Civil Society Organization (CSO) such as the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation; Lanao Development Team; Christar of the Philippines, Inc. and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Poona Piagapo in cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd), and the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Administration (PDEA).


Palawan disclosed that the event aims to train the school children to become responsive, responsible, useful, and productive citizens to be able to contribute in the development of the communities as change agents.

Palawan also expressed his gratitude to the Commanding Officers of 15th IB Lt Col Leomar Jose M. Doctolero and Col. Gilbert I. Gapay of 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade and to the different CSOs for choosing his municipality as beneficiary of the program and initiating the activity to educate and capacitate the youth for their personal development to become good citizen.

The first day (Dec. 20) of the activities was the orientation and sessions on Gawad Kalinga, Lakas ng Pagbabago and Bayani Challenge including Kalinga Night with The Molave Warrior Band of the 15th IB provided the musical entertainment.



The second day (Dec. 21) was the early morning exercises, opening program, empowerment session, puppet show, story-telling, dancing, singing, film showing with morale values and lessons, drug symposium and film showing on the negative effects of illegal drugs was presented and viewed by the school children.
   
The three selected children had also expressed their gratitude to the people and the organizations behind the program which is important to the youth as they learned a lot as well as enjoyed every activity of the event.

The two military officials also expressed their appreciation to the LGU of Poona Piagapo  in welcoming them and shares their part for the successful activities



Lt Col Doctolero said the next Kalinga sa Bayan Program will be held in the municipalities of Tangcal, Kolambugan and Maigo all of Lanao del Norte, which are part and parcel of the areas of responsibility (AORs) of the 15th Infantry Battalion following the implementation of Oplan Bayanihan program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
