Tabak Division Launches AFP Bamboo Reforestation Project

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur -– The 1^st Infantry (Tabak) Division, Philippine Army formally launches the AFP Bamboo Reforestation Project at Headquarters of the 1^st Infantry Division in Kuta Major Cesar L Sang-an, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday December 17  at 6 a.m.

Division Public Affairs Office r at Franco Sueltoi said the event started with a formal lauching ceremony led by Acting Chief of Staff Colonel Loreto C. Magundayao in lieu of 1^st Infantry Division Commander Brigadier General Gerardo F. Barrientos Jr  who officiated the Change of Command Ceremony at 101^st Infantry Brigade. Colonel Magundayao was assisted by Colonel Michael Lowell B Chiong, Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil Miltiary Operations, G7 during the program.

 

Suelrto said the 1^st Infantry (TABAK) Division launched the Bamboo Reforestation Project (BRP) which is one of the priority projects of CSAFP and in line with the National Greening Program.  The BRP aims to contribute to the mitigation of Climate Change and Disaster Management considering its carbon capture capability and cheaper reforestation cost. 

The activity is also part of line-up of events to commemorate the 79^th AFP Anniversary.  The BRP was also replicated in different field units of the Division.  This activity will be sustained thru the establishment of Bamboo nursery in all camps of the 1^st Infantry Division under its area.

The 200 pieces of Giant Bamboo seedlings variety were procured all the way from the Bamboo nursery in Masuan, Bukidnon planted at vicinity Jungle Base, Headquarters, 1^st Infantry Division. The planting site is near a waterway which is an ideal site for Bamboo planting.

 

Suelto disclosed that this Bamboo Reforestation Project is a modest contribution of Team Tabak in mitigating the effects of Climate Change and Global Warming.  Bamboo is a very economical to plant because it requires less maintenance and in 3-5 years it can yield results.  It can also be a source of livelihood because of its different uses.  The Tabak Troopers joins our AFP in being “Green Warriors” and it only shows that the soldiers are also concern with environmental protection and conservation.
