PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Nov. 27 (PNA) -– A Walk for Peace will kick off the Mindanao Week for Peace celebration in this city.

The Walk for Peace, which will be joined by Interfaith Forum for Solidarity and Peace, police, military and other stakeholders, will start at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Plaza Luz passing through the major thoroughfares to the gymnasium of the Saint Columbian College.

Interfaith Forum Muslim Convenor Sultan Maguid Maruhom said the Walk for Peace will be followed by the symbolic candle lighting, Signing of Peace Wall Covenant and the program proper.

The Mindanao Week for Peace celebration is mandated by the Proclamation No.127 declaring the last Thursday of November up to the first Wednesday of December of every year thereafter.

Maruhom said the declaration aims to recognize the common aspirations of Mindanaoans to live in peace, unity and harmony with each other regardless of status in life, religion or culture.

He said the celebration aimed to raise consciousness for a culture of peace among the peoples of Mindanao and to provide venue for expression of peace aspirations in various forms and for convergence of peace initiatives. (PNA)
