PNPAAA-Zambo Sur chapter members shave heads join day of mourning

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Jan. 30 (PNA) -- The members of the Philippine National Police Academy Alumni Association (PNPAAA)-Zamboanga del Sur chapter have shaved their heads as they join the nation in mourning the death of their fallen comrades.

Supt. Glenn Dulawan, local police chief, said Friday they have agreed to shave their heads as a show of sympathy to the bereaved families and mourning the death of their slain companions.

Dulawan, who is a PNPA Class 1999 graduate, is the president of the PNPAAA-Zamboanga del Sur chapter, which has 29 academy graduate-members.

Dulawan appeared at the local police headquarters late Thursday with shaven head.

Forty-four, including seven officers, Special Action Force (SAF) policemen were killed in a “misencounter” with members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Sunday in Barangay Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

President Benigno Simeon Aquino, III has declared Friday, Jan. 30, a national day of mourning for 44 fallen 44 SAF policemen.


Dulawan said three of the 44 fallen SAF policemen were natives of this province.

They are Senior Insp. John Garry Erana (PNPA Class 2009) and Insp. Rennie Tayrus (PNPA Class 2011), both from nearby Dumalinao town, and Police Officer 3 (PO3) Virgel Villanueva of the coastal town of San Pablo.

Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, provincial police director, said the remains of the three slain SAF policemen are set to arrive here Saturday aboard a commercial flight from Manila.
