Former Italian Priest release by KFRG-ASG in Sulu

Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur-(April 09) -- Kidnap victim former Italian priest Rolando del Torchio was released Friday evening by his captors and was recovered by the elements of the Anti-Kidnapping Group, Sulu PNP and Joint Task Force Sulu at Jolo Port onboard MV Beatrice bound for Zamboanga City at around 7:30 P.M. last night.

Former Italian Priest Del Torchio was immediately brought to Kuta Heneral Teodoro Bautista Trauma Hospital, Brgy. Busbus, Jolo, Sulu due to assessed poor medical health and was taken cared of by military doctors.  He was transferred to Camp Navarro General Hospital in Zamboanga City this morning 7 A.M. for medical and psychological check-up and was later found to be in good health by the attending doctors.

The former priest was handed over to the Anti-Kidnapping Group of the PNP and was brought to Manila on board private plane for further assessment.

Torchio was freed after six (6) months in captivity by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG). The victim was abducted inside his stablishment on October 7, 2015 at Quezon Avenue, Miputak, Dipolog City by Kidnapp For Ransom Group (KFRG) MULOC Group under Julmin Muloc (alias Kumander Red Eye) operating in Zamboanga Peninsula and was later turned over to the Abu Sayyaf members under sub-leader Idang Susukan.

Major Filemon Tan, Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) spokesperson said that the government troops continues its intensified Focused Military Operations in tracking down the ASG responsible for the series of kidnappings and atrocities in the area.

Reliable sources said Php30 million ransom was paid to his abductors for his safe release.
