DIPOLOG CITY, June 15 (PNA) -- Police forces have been placed on alert as well as security had been strengthened to prevent the escape or rescue of a high-value detainee at its detention facility.

Senior Supt. Edwin Wagan, police provincial director, told the Philippines News Agency, that security has been tightened after Abner Gumandol was detained at the lock-up cell of the provincial headquarters in Barangay Sicayab, this city.

Wagan said Gumandol was detained at the provincial headquarters since he is facing kidnapping case before a local court.

Gumandol, who carries the aliases of Sehar Muloc, Abner Muloc, and Commander Red Eye, was arrested last Saturday in Barangay Kaliantana, Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Gumandol, the alleged “eye” or spotter of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), has direct link with Sulu-based ASG mid-level leader Idang Susukan.

Gumandol has standing warrant of arrest for his involvement in the kidnapping of former Italian priest, Rolando del Torchio on Oct. 7, 2015 in this city.

He is also involved in the kidnapping of Jeffrey Lim, the mayor of Salug, Zamboanga del Norte.

Wagan said all visitors of Gumandol are properly screened to prevent the entry of prohibited items into the latter’s detention cell.
