Dapitan City’s ‘Kinabayo Festival’ kicks off





DAPITAN CITY, Zamboanga del Norte, July 18 (PNA) -- The local government through the City Tourism Office has lined up several activities marking the celebration of the Kinabayo Festival.

The highlight of the festival is the feast day of Saint James the Greater, this city’s patron saint, on July 25.

City Tourism Officer Apple Marie Agolong told the Philippines News Agency that the festival kicked off on Saturday with a parade followed by the opening program at 7:00 p.m. at the city plaza.

The 11 lovely candidates for the search for Miss Dapitan City 2016 were presented during the opening program. The coronation night will be on Saturday.

Motorcyclists from Visayas and Mindanao saw action during the Invitational Drag Race Competition on Sunday that attracted huge crowd. It was held at the Dapitan Aquamarine Park (DAMPA).

The Kinabayo Festival activities are as follows: Hip Hop Dance workshop, Sunday to Monday; Hip Hop Dance competition, Tuesday; cooking competition dubbed as Taste of Dapitan, Tuesday; Kinabayo songwriting contest, Wednesday; sports competitions (street basketball, football, beach volleyball, tennis, and shooting), Saturday to Sunday.

Agolong said the Taste of Dapitan cooking competition will showcase the different local delicacies.

Agolong said there will be also horse on parade and racing, street dancing, drum and lyre and drum and bugle competition as well as “Ratsada sa Banda 2016” in the evening of July 25.
