Military vehicle crashes in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY (January 06, 2017)- A military vehicle boarded by personnel of the 21st Infantry Battalion crashed in Barangay Upper Kamuntayan, Talipao, Sulu early this morning, military official said.

Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) Spokesperson Maj. Filemon I. Tan Jr disclosed that the said accident resulted in the deaths of three (3) enlisted personnel, who were declared dead on arrival by the attending physicians, and the wounding of 22 others.

The military convoy was traversing Danag-Bilaan road when the brake of the Isuzu truck malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to lose its balance and slip out of the road, Tan added.

The said truck came from the headquarters going to the operational area.

Tan also said that the injured personnel were brought to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Hospital for medical attention. Eighteen (18) of them were airlifted via C130 to Zamboanga City for further medical attention, two of whom were brought to a private hospital in the city.

Also airlifted to Zamboanga City were the remains of the three (3) fatalities which will be transported to Manila today.
