ARMM Ulama summit against terrorism held in Cotabato City

ZAMBOANGA CITY (May 13, 2017) - Muslim religious leaders, national government agencies, foreign and local stakeholders from the various parts of the country convened in a summit to counter terrorism, which was organized by the Office of the Regional Governor and the Regional DarulIfta of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), in Cotabato City on Friday (May 12).

Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) Information Officer Cpt Jo-Ann D. Petinglay disclosed that the Ulama Summit against Terrorism was officiated by Lieutenant General Carlito G. Galvez, Jr., Commander, Western Mindanao Command; ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman; Atty. Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, Mayor of Cotabato City; Sheikh Abdulrahman Udasan, Mufti Darul-Ifta Bangsamoro; Prof. Alzad Sattar, Undersecretary of the ARMM Bureau of Madaris; and other religious leaders.

Cpt. Petinglay said, around 300 Ulama and Ustadzes from all over the country attended the very important event which was conceptualize after Daesh groups were monitored recruiting in the different areas of Mindanao especially among the youth. Lieutenant General Carlito G Galvez, Jr, the Commander of the Western Mindanao Command as a guest speaker, discussed terrorism and security in the Southern Philippines.

"Security is a shared responsibility that needs sustainment of partnership between the different stakeholders, security sectors, the local government units, the academe, and religious sectors, and other stakeholders to defeat the threat of terrorism in Southern Philippines,” said LtGen. Galvez.

"There is a need to unite all our efforts to win the war against Islamic extremism and terrorism in our region. We must condemn all terror actions of international and local terrorist groups,” added LtGen. Galvez.




The Ulama summit is a three-day activity held at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex in Cotabato City. The activity intends to have one stand and one voice among all sectors in the fight against the terrorism and extremism.
