NFWM renders honors to another hero of Marawi

ZAMBOANGA CITY (September 3, 2017) – Fleet-Marine Team of Naval Forces Western Mindanao rendered funeral honors to the remains of the late Pfc. Robert R Bismar PN (M) who was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the morning of Aug. 31, 2017.

Rear Admiral Rene V. Medina AFP, Commander, Naval Forces Western Mindanao, disclosed that Pfc Robert R Bismar was a member of the 7th Marine Company (7MC) and reported to Marawi City on June 22, 2017. His squad was departing from one building to another to man and establish a defensive position against the enemy. At 12 o’clock in the afternoon of Aug. 28, 2017, a loud explosion in the location of Bismar was heard by his comrades and turned out that Bismar was hit by an IED set-up by the enemy.



The wounded Pfc. was immediately evacuated via civilian pick-up truck to the nearest Medical station at Lilod Madaya. However, he was then declared dead on arrival by his attending physician. His remains was turned over to his family in the morning of Aug. 31, 2017 right after the funeral honors and followed by the internment held at their residence in Upper Calarian, Zamboanga City.


NFWM and the Armed forces of the Philippines as a whole condoles with the family of the fallen soldiers who took up the challenge to serve and bring peace to the city of Marawi. Their dedication in serving the country will always be honored and remembered by the nation and the Filipino people, RADM Medina added.
