Comelec declares Election Hot Spot 6 Barangays in Pagadian City

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga d el Sur (May 13, 2018) – The personnel of Pagadian City Police Station are now focusing on the monitoring of 6 Barangays of this city following the Commission on Election (COMELEC) declaration as Election Hot Spot Barangay for Barangay and SK Electrion.

These are the Barangays of Santa Lucia, Dampalan, La Suerte, Deborok, Lison Valley and Lourdes out of 54 Bartangays of Pagadian City. Of the 6 barangays declared election hot spot only Santa Lucia belong to the urban while the 5 are in the rural areas.

City Chief of Police Superintendent Alvin P. Saguban disclosed that Santa Lucia is already included in the watch list due to the presence of goons between rival candidates while Lison Valley, Lourdes, Deborok, La Suerte and Dampalan are identified with presence of armed groups like the New People’s Army (NPA) and other lawless individual.

“We declared the entire city as red alert in preparation of Barangay and SK Election in order to control the situation and to establish peace and order during the election period,” Supt. Saguban said.

No Election related incident being reported so far, the Chief of Police said.

The police personnel were designated to stay near the voting precinct and will be augmented by the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion starting this afternoon for the preservation of peace and order during the conduct of election on Monday May 14, police official said.  

“I am increasing police visibility in the 6 barangays as election hot spots and also to highly public places area like public market, Integrated Bus Terminals, Malls and shopping centers,” Supt. Saguan said.

They will continue monitoring together with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and COMELEC against election violators like vote buying and selling, the Local police chief added.

Supt. Saguban also said, the police record shows that from the start of the implementation of Election Gun Ban, only one violator apprehended during the conduct of random mobile Comelec checkpoint. 

The City Police Chief also requested the public to report immediately to the authorities if they can monitor any suspicious looking personnel in their respective area to avoid any untoward incident.
