Pagadian City Gov’t extends assistance to 60 family’s fire victim

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (May 18, 2018) – The city government of Pagadian distributed initial assistance yesterday to 60 families that were displaced after their houses including 9 school rooms razed by fired Wednesday afternoon at 5:56pm at Purok Sweet Love and Kahayag in Barangay Dumagoc of this city.

City fire Marshall Senior Insp. Edgar Quitoy of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said that of the 49-residential houses razed by fire 2 were partially burned including 9-rooms of Dumagoc Elementary School were also razed by fire.

Haron Damada Jr., City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) action officer said initially distributed to fire victims food assistance like rice, noodles and sardines. They were also given non-food items such as kitchen utensils, used clothes, mats and blankets.

Damada said some displace families were temporary accommodated at the Barangay covered-court.

Initial investigation conducted by the BFP investigator disclosed that the fire originated at the house owned by Mrs. Pacita Navies particularly at their kitchen. Accordingly, her son Rainier Navies was cooking at their kitchen using firewood and was left unattended. The fire suddenly escalated to the neighboring houses.

Senior Insp. Quitoy said mostly of the houses were made of light materials. BFP declared fire out at around 7:15pm. The initial cost of damage is Php1.2-million pesos excluding the 9-school rooms.
