Civilian killed, policeman wounded in ZamboSibugay shooting incident

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (July 8, 2018) – A civilian was killed while a member of Philippine National Police (PNP) was wounded in shooting incident transpired at Purok Imelda, Brgy Ipil Heights in Ipil municipality Zamboanga Sibugay province Friday at about 7:30am.

PO3 Javier Mika, investigator on case identified the victim as Loremar Potestad Dumantay alias “Jojo”, 38 years old, married, a resident of Purok Mañalac, Brgy. Don Andres, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. Unidentified assailant using Cal. 45 Pistol shot him to death.

Initial investigation conducted disclosed that the victim was riding a single motorcycle ferried his two children to Ipil Heights National High School, Ipil Heights, Ipil municipality.

However, when he returned unidentified suspect flagged him down in front of Ipil Heights Elementary School and without apparent reason shot him three times on the different parts of his body that resulted to his instantaneous death, Police Official said.

The suspect hurriedly walked towards Barangay Hall Ipil Heights. Coincidentally, SPO1 Arvin T. Cabigon assigned in Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office is on his way to report his duty immediately responded and pursued the suspect, but the suspect also shot him hitting at the upper left waist of his body that force him to returned fire on the suspect using his issued firearm, PO3 Mika also said.

The suspect was able to evade and hurriedly ride on a tricycle towards the highway and disembarked, then transferred to another single motorcycle and sped-off towards unknown direction while SPO1 Cabigon was rushed to Dr. Henry De Villa Hospital for medication, PO3 Mika added.

The SOCO team recovered the following evidences from the crime scene two empty shells of cal.45 near the dead body of the victim. Duty investigator recovered beside Barangay Hall Heights four empty shells and one slug of Cal.45, and three empty shells of Cal.9mm. Recovered evidences were brought by SOCO for ballistic examination.

Further, Ipil MPS and PMFC conducted hot pursuit operation for possible identity and apprehension of the suspect/s.
