25 firearms turned-over in Zamboanga del Norte town


PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (Aug. 1, 2018) – Twenty five loose firearms were turned-over by the Barangay Chairmen of Godod, Zamboanga del Norte to the 102nd Infantry Brigade, Joint Task Force “ZamPeLan” 1pm yesterday 31 July, Tabak Official said.

Hon Abel M Matildo, Municipal Mayor of Godod, led the turn-over ceremony of the loose firearms to Col Bagnus P Gaerlan, 102nd Brigade Commander in the Municipal Gymnasium of Brgy Poblacion, Division Public Affairs Office Chief Maj. Ronald Suscano disclosed.

Maj. Suscano said that the loose firearms include one  M14, one Garand, and three M16 rifles; two GL 40mm M79; one Carbine; ten improvised homemade shotguns; one cal .45 pistol; and six cal .38 revolver.

Suscano added that the event was made possible through the joint efforts of the military, police, municipal and brgy officials of Godod and other stakeholders.

Major General Roseller G Murillo, 1ID Commander and concurrent Commander of JTF “ZamPeLan” lauded the collaborative efforts of the troops, police, and the local officials for the successful and diplomatic approach leading to the voluntary turn-over of firearms by the local folks of Godod municipality, Suscano also said.

“The mass surrender and turn-over of loose firearms will minimize violent incidents and atrocities in our area of responsibility. Peaceful municipality will also attract investors, which means more job and employment will be created that would lead into a progressive locality”, said MGen Murillo.


Above-mentioned firearms were turned-over to the municipal police station of Godod for safekeeping and proper disposition, DPAO chief said. (By JONG CADION)
