Another Young Maute/ISIS fighter, Surrenders Anew in Lanao del Sur

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (Nov. 14, 2018) – Another young Maute/ISIS fighter surrendered to 49th Infantry “Good Samaritan” Battalion of the Joint Task Force Ranao in Butig, Lanao del Sur Tuesday (November 13, 2018), military official said.

Capt. Clint Antipala, Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) OIC Chief identified the young fighter as Alias AJ, 15 years old, was recruited by his cousins, the Maute brothers in Butig last 2014.

Antipala said that AJ was trained with 12 other members and one of them already surrendered to 49IB on October 29, 2018.

“Nine years old was their youngest recruit and most of them were involved in armed engagement with government forces in the month of February and November of 2016,” Army’s 49th Infantry Battalion Commander Lt. Col Edgar Allan Villanueva said.

Custodial debriefing is still on-going as of this posting.

Army’s Premier Division Chief Maj. Gen. Roseller Murillo, Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) commander, commended the efforts of troops that facilitated the young fighter to surrender.

“We are glad to hear that AJ decided to surrender and this is the best chance for him to return to mainstream society and achieve his aspiration,” Maj.Gen. Murillo said.
