12 high-powered loose firearms turned-over to the military in Maguindanao

PAGADIAN CITY (Feb. 5, 2021) - A total of 12 high-powered firearms were turned-over by the local government of Datu Montawal municcipality in Maguindanao province to the 602nd Infantry Brigade on the morning of February 4, 2021, the WestMinCom Commander said.

“The firearms include nine Garand rifles, one Muzzle caliber .30, one 7.62 Sniper rifle, and one Carbine rifle,” WestMinCom Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said.

Said firearms were handed over by the residents of Datu Montawal to the municipal government.

“This came after a series of dialogues and negotiations with the barangay and municipal government officials of Datu Montawal,” said Lt. Col. Rommel Mundala, Commanding Officer of the 90th Infantry Battalion, the unit that facilitated the successful turnover of loose firearms.

Datu Montawal Mayor Ohto Montawal led the ceremonial turnover of loose firearms to 602Bde Commander Brig. Gen. Roberto Capulong at the Session Hall of the said municipality.

Mayor Montawal said that they fully support the campaign of the national government against loose firearms. They will continue to help the military in disarming all those who own undocumented firearms.

Brig. Gen. Capulong expressed his gratitude to Mayor Montawal and other local officials for giving their trust and support to the military.

“Through our good convergence, we expect a continuous turnover of loose firearms in our area of operation,” said Brig. Gen. Capulong

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, Commander of the Joint Task Force Central said that only authorized individuals are allowed to possess and carry firearms.

“Those people who unlawfully carry or possess firearms will be subjected to law enforcement operations,” Maj. Gen. Uy stated.

“Our unprecedented gains in the campaign against loose firearms are results of the consequent synergy among the security forces, local government, and the people,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

The turned-over firearms are currently at 90IB headquarters for proper disposition.

From January 1, 2021, to date, a total of 15 firearms were turned over to the military in central Mindanao. (By JONG CADION with reports and photos from WesyMinCom-PIO)
