Successful Military’s campaign yields more gains as more loose firearms turnover by Lanao Sur execs

PAGADIAN CITY (Feb. 10, 2021) - A total of eight loose firearms were turned over to the military By Local Chief Executives in Lanao del Sur on Tuesday morning.

“The local chief executives handed over to the Alpha Company Patrol Base of the 82nd Infantry Battalion in Barangay Kilala, Marawi City, six high-powered and two low-powered firearms after their continuous conduct of Key Leader Engagements,” Lt. Western Mindanao Command Chief Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said.

“This manifests the desire of the local government to participate in our quest for lasting peace and prosperity in the region,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. added.

Lt. Col. Rafman Altre, Commanding Officer of the 82IB said the turned over firearms include three Cal .50 Barrett Bolt Action Sniper rifles, one 7.62mm FAL rifle, one M79 Grenade Launcher, one Cal .30 US Springfield Armory Garand rifle, one KG9 9mm submachine gun, and one Cal .45 Colt Pistol.

The firearms were handed over by the locals from the municipalities of Buadipuso Buntong, Bubong, Ditsaan Ramain, and the Clustered Lake barangays of Marawi City, all of Lanao del Sur.

Brig. Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo III, Commander of the 103rd Infantry Battalion commended the troops of the 82IB for this laudable accomplishment.

Meanwhile, Joint Task Force ZamPeLan Commander Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio urged the local government units, the stakeholders, and the local populace to trust and support the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms.

“Let us continue to work towards the attainment of lasting peace in our area of operation,” said Maj. Gen. Ponio.

Said loose firearms were brought to 82IB headquarters, in Barangay Pawak, Saguiaran, Lanao Del Sur for documentation and proper disposition.

For this year, this is the first batch of loose firearms turned over to the JTF ZamPeLan.

“We expect more gains as we level-up this campaign this year,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

Since January 1, 2021, a total of 41 loose firearms were turned over to the military in western and central Mindanao wherein 21 were handed over in Central area, eight in ZamPeLan, five in Sulu, four in Tawi-Tawi, two in Basilan, and one in Zamboanga.
