Local official turns over loose firearms in Tawi-Tawi

PAGADIAN CITY (March 20, 2021) - A barangay official of Malassa, Bongao Tawi-Tawi handed over his loose firearms to the military on March 17, 2021, the WestMinCom Commander said.

According to Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander of the Western Mindanao Command, the undocumented firearms were turned over to the troops of the 512th Marine Company at Sitio Boloboc, Barangay Lakit-Lakit, Bongao.

“Through the strengthened interagency collaboration and intensified civil-military operations, the armed forces gained the trust and support of the people which resulted in significant headways in the campaigns against terrorism, insurgency, loose firearms, illegal drugs, and other lawless activities,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

The turned-over firearms include one M1 Garand rifle, one Grenade Launcher, and one cal. 38 revolver. These were placed under the custody of 512MC.

Lt. Col. Aladdin Caluza, the Battalion Commander of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-12 said the unit continuously conducts security forums/dialogues to educate the people on matters pertaining to the illegal possession of loose firearms which is promulgated under RA 10591.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Commander of the Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi lauded the troops of the MBLT-12 for the significant gains that contributed to the mission accomplishment of the unit.

“We established a good relationship with the PNP and LGUs and synchronized our efforts because we believe that it is the key to achieve operational effects and reach our common goal. We thank the LCEs of Tawi-Tawi led by Gov. Yshmael “Mang” Sali for your untiring support to our endeavors,” said Brig. Gen. Rojas.   

From January 2021, a total of 25 loose firearms were turned over by the locals to the marine troops of JTF Tawi-Tawi. (By JONG CADION with reports and photos from WestMinCom-PIO)
