According to Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., the intensified key leader engagements of the 82nd Infantry Battalion led by Lt. Col. Rafman Altre continue to yield positive results in the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms.

Turned over were one 12-gauge Shotgun, one Cal. 50 Sniper rifle, one 7.62mm Sniper rifle, one 40mm M203 Grenade Launcher, and one 40mm m79 Grenade Launcher.

Also turned over were two low-powered firearms including one KG9 9mm submachine gun and one cal. 38 revolver.

“We are elated by the gesture of support of the local chief executives to the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms initiated by PRRD,” said Lt. Col. Altre.

The ceremonial turn-over of firearms was held at the 82IB headquarters in Barangay Pawak, municipality of Saguiaran.

103rd Infantry Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo II reiterated his call for the collaborative support and cooperation of the local key leaders and traditional elders to achieve sustainable peace in the area.

Meanwhile, Joint Task Force ZamPeLan Commander Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio lauded the efforts of the 82IB for this feat which contributed to the overall accomplishments of the task force.

The turned-over firearms are now under the custody of 82Ib for documentation and proper disposition.

Since January 2021, JTF ZamPeLan has a total of 23 firearms gains from surrendered and recovered loose firearms alone. 15 of the 23 are high-powered firearms while eight are low-powered firearms.

“This exemplifies the harmonious relationship among the peace advocates, the security sector, local chief executives, local leaders, and the communities,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

“Rest assured that we will continue to employ the whole-of-nation approach of the government to end lawlessness and criminalities in our area of operation,” the commander added. (By JONG CADION with reports and photos from WestMinCom-PIO)
