Communist terrorist group officer yields in Lanao del Sur

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (June 19, 2021) - Through the joint efforts of 51st and 55th Infantry Battalions of the Philippine Army, a Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) officer yielded in Lanao del Sur on June 17, 2021.

“A.k.a. Nets/Marc, 33 years old, male, a resident of Barangay Nuevo Trabajo, Agusan del Sur, Commanding Officer of Special Partisan Unit (SPARU), and concurrent Squad Leader of Squad A of Main Regional Guerilla Unit COMPAC, ROC, NCMRC, surrendered to the troops at the 51IB headquarters in Barangay Dilausan, Madalum, Lanao del Sur at 5 p.m., Thursday,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander of Western Mindanao Command 

Said personality handed over one cal. 45 pistol Colt M1911A1 with magazine and eight ammunitions.

According to Brig. Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, Commander of 103rd Infantry Brigade, subject joined the group and became a member of Platoon 1, FC88, NCMRC on October 18, 2012.

“He was tasked to augment with the SRC 5 on October 2020 to conduct liquidation missions,” Brig. Gen. Cuerpo II added.

In February 2021, the subject went on lie low and hid at the house of Barangay Councilor Maricel Timbangan of Rogongon, Iligan City prior to his initial negotiation with the Intelligence Operatives on the same month.

Surrendered personality is now in the custody of 51IB for custodial debriefing.

“We encourage those who are still hiding to come out. Now is the time for them to return to the folds of the law and avail of the assistance offered by the government,” said Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, Commander, Joint Task Force ZamPeLan.

Since January 2021, Joint Task Force ZamPeLan neutralized a total of 89 CTG personalities in Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao provinces. Four of the 89 were killed, 77 surrendered, and eight were apprehended.

“While we continue to fight against the invisible enemy, let us all unite and work towards the attainment of lasting peace and sustainable development.
