WestMinCom honors two generals for their contributions to peace and development

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (June 2, 2021) - Two military generals visited the Western Mindanao Command on May 31, 2021.

Newly-promoted Brig. Gen. Benjamin Batara, Jr., Commander of 1102nd Infantry Brigade was donned with new rank insignia by WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. at Eisenhower Hall, Khadaffy Mansion, Calarian, Zamboanga City at about 8:30 in the morning, Monday.

He was then accorded with traditional military honors by the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian human resources of the command at the Parade Ground after which he paid a courtesy call on Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. at the Bautista Lounge of the Command. The Command Staff joined the WestMinCom Commander in congratulating the Brig. Gen. Batara, Jr. 

The newly-promoted general assumed as the Brigade Commander of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade based in Camp Bud Datu, Barangay Tagbak, Indanan, Sulu on January 7, 2021.

Under his leadership, the brigade has achieved greater heights in both its focused and civil-military operations.

With the ensuing campaign against terrorism in the province of Sulu, 1102Bde was able to neutralize one foreign terrorist identified as a.k.a. Yusop, and several Abu Sayyaf Group members in the first five months of 2021

Through the Balik-Barangay Program, the unit also facilitated the return of 212 families in Barangay Pansul, Patikul on February 19.

Brig. Gen. Batara, Jr. is a proud member of the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis-lahi” class of 1990.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Marcelino Randy Tibayan, the outgoing commander of the Air Combat Command paid an exit call to Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. at noon, same day.

Maj. Gen. Tibayan is a proud member of the Philippine Air Force Flying School Class of 1989 and is set to avail his compulsory retirement effective June 26, 2021.

Under the sterling leadership of Maj. Gen. Tibayan, the Air Combat Command conducted several tactical air and special operations to support the mission of the AFP which include the conduct of joint law enforcement operations together with other security agencies that led to the neutralization of high-value individuals and communist terrorist group members.

Extensive efforts provided by the ACC contributed to the success of the military’s campaigns and operations against insurgents and other lawless elements within its area of operations.

In his message, Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. congratulated the two generals for their respective successes.
