AFP Officers’ Ladies Club extends assistance to plane crash victims

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur- (July 17, 2021) - The AFP Officers’ Ladies Club led by Mrs. Edna Sobejana, the better half of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, donated bundles of joy to the survivors of the plane crash.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. spearheaded the distribution of the bundles of goods that contain hygiene kits, fruits, biscuits, and other items to the survivors on the morning of July 16, 2021.

14 soldiers admitted at Camp Navarro General Hospital, 20 at Zamboanga City Medical Center, three at West Metro Medical Center, one at Zamboanga Doctor’s Hospital, and three soldiers and three civilians at Ciudad Medical Zamboanga received the relief assistance. 

Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. also took the opportunity to give his words of encouragement to the survivors.

“Be healed and be strong. We are all here to support you in your healing process. Be of good cheer, your comrades-in-arms, our stakeholders, and the entire country are always ready to lend a helping hand. Let us all heal together,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

During the distribution of the assistance, Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. was accompanied by Lt. Col. Maria Victoria Mandin, Commanding Officer of Camp Navarro General Hospital, and Capt. Robeline Carpio, the Assistant Chief of Unified Command Staff for Personnel.

Meanwhile, one of the victims confined at Ciudad Medical Zamboanga expired in the wee hours of July 16.

“We are deeply saddened by the demise of one of our 47 survivors of the air mishap in Sulu,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

“Let us pray for his eternal repose and strength for his bereaved family. His remains will be transported to his hometown in Misamis Oriental anytime soon,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan added.

“Let us also continue to pray for the speedy recovery of the 49 victims who are currently recuperating at the different private and public hospitals,” the commander further stated.

With the passing of one soldier earlier today, the death toll of the air mishap has risen to 53. (By JONG CADION with  reports and photos from WestMinCom-PIO)
