Soldiers encounter communist terrorists amid combat operation

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (July 12, 2021) - Troops of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan clashed with undetermined number of communist terrorist group members in Misamis Occidental on the morning of July 11, 2021.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander of Western Mindanao Command said soldiers were conducting combat operations when they chanced upon the communist terrorists in the boundary of Barangays Small Potongan and Bagong Nayon, all of Concepcion, Misamis Occidental.

Firefight ensued which lasted for about an hour after which enemy withdrew bringing along their casualties with them.

According to Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, Commander of 102nd Infantry Brigade, the enemies are believed to be elements of the Guerilla Front Sendong.

While scouring the encounter site, operating troops recovered one AK-47, magazines and ammunition, gadgets, five solar panels, two CPP flags, one NPA flag, one NDF flag, 20 poncho tents, medical supplies, assorted foodstuff, personal belongings, and propaganda materials.

Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, Commander of JTF ZamPeLan said the troops received information from the citizens of the presence of armed men in the area.

“Troops immediately acted on the report to preempt the terror ploys of the group,” said Maj. Gen. Ponio.

Blocking and pursuit operations are currently being conducted.

“We acknowledge the support we get from the citizens and we vow to intensify further our offensives to neutralize the terrorists who remain indoctrinated with the false ideologies. We will hunt them down to sustain the peace in the communities,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.(By JONG CADION with report and photos from WestMinCom)
