Troops, local terrorists clash amid intensified operations in Maguindanao

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (July 4, 2021) - An armed confrontation ensued between operating troops of Joint Task Force Central and a local terrorist group in Maguindanao Friday.

“Amid the intensified conduct of focused military operations, soldiers encountered more or less 30 members of the Daulah Islamiyah-Hassan Group led by Salahuddin Hassan, a.k.a. Orak/Abu Saif/Abu Salman in Barangay Salman, Ampatuan, Maguindanao at noontime Friday, July 2, 2021,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander, Western Mindanao Command.

Heavy skirmishes ensued which lasted for about 30 minutes and resulted in the death of one enemy and seizure of several war materials.

According to Joint Task Force Central Commander Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, the slain enemy was identified as Muslimin Kulas Tagal based on the postal and voter’s ID recovered in his possession.

While scouring the area, troops recovered the dead body of the slain enemy, one 5.56mm empty long magazine, one civilian backpack, two cellular phones with charger, one pocket wifi, one postal ID, one voter’s ID, one hammock, one wallet with PhP500.00 cash, one bandolier, one laminated sack, two kilograms rice, assorted clothes, and medicines.

Based on the follow-up report, troops are still in pursuit of the fleeing enemies while reinforcements were deployed to establish blockades in possible enemy withdrawal routes.

“We continue to intensify the conduct of focused military operations to restrict the movements of the terrorists and preempt their terror ploys,” said Maj. Gen. Uy.

Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. commended the Joint Task Force Central for their untiring dedication to their duties. He further encouraged them to press on until armed groups are all dismantled.

“With the support of our fellow peace advocates and the community, we are optimistic that we will soon be able to crush all the remaining enemies of the state,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr. (By JONG CADION with reports and photos from WestMinCom-PIO)
