2 communist terrorists lay down their arms in Sultan Kudarat

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (August 7, 2021) - Two members of the communist terrorist group laid down their arms and returned to the fold of the law in Sultan Kudarat at 3 p.m., August 5, 2021.

“A.k.a. Jeric, 25 years old, married, and a.k.a. boy, 25 years old, single, both residents of Sitio Dulunan, Barangay Wasay, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat submitted themselves to the government forces Thursday afternoon,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Western Mindanao Command Chief.

The two were subsequently presented to 601st Infantry Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Roy Galido; Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Office Director, Police Col. Noel Kinazo; Sultan Kudarat Governor Suharto Teng Mangudadatu; and Datu Wasay Barangay Chairman Henilo Dungog at S.P. Hall, Provincial Capitol, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, on the same day.

According to Brig. Gen. Galido, the successful surrender of the two was facilitated by the 7th Infantry Battalion led by Lt. Col. Romel Valencia and the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Office.

“The two handed over one 7.62mm M14 rifle and one cal. 30 M1 Garand rifle,” said Brig. Gen. Galido.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Valencia revealed that a.k.a. Jeric is the Commanding Officer of Platoon West, Sub-Regional Committee Musa of the Far South Mindanao Region (SRC Musa, FSMR) while a.k.a. Boy is a member of Platoon Myphone, SRC Daguma, FSMR.

During their initial debriefing, the two disclosed that they turned in due to the intense pressure of focused military operations mounted against them and the hardships they experience evading government forces.

Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, Commander of Joint Task Force Central said the two former rebels will be enrolled in the reintegration program of the government after their custodial debriefing.

Since January 2021, 76 members of the Communist Terrorist Group surrendered to the troops of the Joint Task Force Central, 67 of whom are regular members and nine are supporters.

“Our lethal and non-lethal efforts are paying off as more communist terrorists are surrendering successively thus we will be more aggressive in our stance against the remaining terrorists so that they will opt to end their armed struggle and return into mainstream society,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

Lt. Gen. Vinluan emphasized that the success of the operations is not solely the military’s effort but also of the PNP, the local government, and the community. (By JONG D. CADION with reports and photos from WestMinCom-PIO)
