Army-DepEd holds Youth Leadership Summit in Lanao Sur


At least 90 students from 9 towns
in Lanao del Sur participated the 3 day 
YouthLeadership Summit singing the

PUALAS, LANAO DEL SUR The three days Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) with the theme: “Building Communities of Peace through Youth Empowerment and Solidarity” was successfully conducted by 51st Infantry Battalion of the Army’s premier Division in partnership with the Department of Education of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DepEd-ARMM). 

The YLS were participated by at least 90 high school students from the 9 municipalities of Lanao del Sur was done at Barangay Talambo in the municipality of Pualas, on November 27 to 29, 2012 to promote and enhance the culture of peace, values orientation, sports skills, and leadership qualities and strengthen nationalism among the participants.

A series of workshop and lectures by subject matter experts on peace team building, youth empowerment, used of illegal drugs, values, human rights and spiritual enrichment were presented to further develop solidarity and leadership among the participants.  
The Commanding Officer of 51st Infantry Battalion Lt. Col. Ceasar Marlon M. Yadao said that the Christian and Muslim participants were from the municipalities of Bacolod-Kalawi, Bayang, Binadayan, Ganassi, Madamba, Madalum, Pagayawan, Pualas and Tubaran.

The three-day summit was pursued to instill the level of awareness on issues that affects the youths. It will educate the participants in becoming responsible citizens in the community and eventually develop into young leaders for the future. Lt. Col. Yadao said.

Meanwhile, 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division Commander Maj. General Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III lauded the involved troops from the 51st Infantry Battalion and to the 103rd Infantry Brigade under the Command of Brig. General Daniel A. Lucero for their efforts in making the summit a success. “The YLS aims to transform the youth to be more productive and responsible members of the society”. MGen. Cruz III added.
