Five wounded in Bomb explosion at Tubod Lanao del Norte

TUBOD, LANAO DEL NORTE – Five were seriously wounded and were rushed immediately to the nearby hospital after hitting them from the sharp nails when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off yesterday January 4, 2013 in front of Ysmael Restaurant along the national highway of Poblacion, Tubod this province.

The incident was happened at about noontime when the IED was placed in a motorcycle that was parked by an unidentified person near the said restaurant, police initial investigation disclosed.

The 5 victims were seriously wounded identified as Judith Padilla Gomez, Pamela Dalman, Cherrie Molina and Peter dela Vega who are all from Iligan City while the other victim identified as Saipuden Biucay from Brgy. Bulod, Tubod sustained only minor wounds. The victims were all rushed to Lanao del Norte Provincial Hospital at the nearby municipality of Baroy, Lanao del Norte.

It was learned that the former Mayor of Salvador, Lanao del Norte Sultan Jhonny Tawantawan and his lawyer Atty Yusop Omar were eating at the restaurant during the explosion. 

Troops from the 35th Infantry Battalion under the Brigade responded to the blast site to assist the Tubod PNP, help the victims and secure the site for investigation. The motive of the incident is yet to be determined, the 2nd Mechanized Brigade Commander Col Ricardo Jalad said. (With Reports from Ely Dumaboc)
