PAGADIAN CITY (April 5, 2013)The two commercial flights from Manila to Pagadian City and Cebu to Pagadian City of Cebu Pacific and Air-Phil were temporarily suspended following the establishment of barricade at the middle of the runway conducted by the heir’s of Datu Lucas Taug-Boto yesterday.

The two Airbus flights from the Cebu Pacific one in the morning from Manila to Pagadian and from Cebu to Pagadian in the afternoon have been temporarily cancelled since yesterday due to the runway obstruction at the Pagadian City Airport, according to their advisory while the Air-Philippines afternoon daily flight from Cebu to Pagadian was also cancelled.

The barricade in the middle of the runway with tent and streamer printed an quote “NO TRESSPASSING PRIVATE PROPERTY HEIR’S OF DATU LUCAS TAUG BOTO” was established in the middle of the runway by the heir’s led by the daughter Bai Sominal Taug who claimed to be the owner of more than 3 hectares of land of the runway due to non-payment of land by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) following the Supreme Court decision in favor to them.

“This is the only way that the national government will listen to our demand. We will only talk to President Noynoy Aquino because he is the only one who can answer our problem,” Bai Sominal Taug said.

“Our demand was already long overdue and we had already won the case. This is the 3rd barricade we had established to repossess our property after the failure of payment as agreed in the negotiations during our first and  2nd barricade, Bai Taug added.

Our demand is Php50 million pesos and if they want to use the airport's runway they have to give us fifty percent cash of our demand and the other fifty percent will be paid on agreement basis, she disclosed.

The land conflict between the Taug-Boto family and the DOTC started on 1960’s after the portion of their land was used by the national government to be a runway of the newly renovated into International Standard Pagadian City Airport. Bi Taug said.

Airport Manager Jose Bodiongan said that he had already made coordination to Manila office regarding the problem and for the meantime their only concern is the safety of the passengers therefore they will temporarily stop the airport's operation.

City Councilor Arnold Gavenia the OIC Mayor who visited the area also said
that Mayor Samuel S. Co is in Manila and had already informed DOTC Secretary Joseph Emilio A. Abaya and DILG Secretary Mar Roxas regarding the problem.

“Since I am he Chairman of the Committee of Transportation and Communication in the Sangguniang Panglungsod I will look also for a solution to the problem through a resolution requesting DOTC to take action of the case, Gavenia said.

The director from the Cebu pacific arrived this morning and is now on the meeting with the land owner for the possible solution of the problem, reliable sources said.
