PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Jan. 13 (PNA) -– The local government formally opened Monday the “Pasalamat Festival” through agro-trade fair and “Pinaka Contest” at the Plaza Luz’ covered court, this city.

Mayor Romeo Pulmones and Vice-Mayor Divina Grace Yu led the cutting of ribbon ceremony that formally opened the agro-trade fair attended by local and national government officials.

Agricultural products from the different barangays of this city are displayed for sale at the agro-trade fair booths.

“At the same time, we are also conducting a contest for their ‘Pinaka’ agri-products to encourage the farmers exert more efforts in making their agricultural products as the best of the best,” City Agriculture Officer Annie Tenorio said.

The agro-trade fair is one of the series of activities during the week-long celebration of the “Pasalamat Festival” showcasing the culture and tradition of this city’s tri-peoples--the Christians, Muslims and Subanens--to enliven the spirits of Sto. Niño devotees.

On Tuesday (January 14), the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hold a Jobs Fair at the city gymnasium.

Pulmones had issued Executive Order No. 57 ordering this city’s 54 barangays to participate in all of the activities and to appropriate counterpart funds to ensure the success of the various events.

A fluvial parade of devotees carrying different sizes of this city’s patron saint, Sto. Niño, will be held on Saturday (January 18).

The fluvial parade will be preceded by a con-celebrated mass at the local wharf.

Capping the week-long festival is a Holy Mass and other religious activities on January 19, the feast day of this city. (PNA)
